Mat classes are offered at various times and days. Intro Level Mat, Open Level Mat + Stretch, and Level 1 are ongoing classes, you may start at any time.
Levels 2-4 Mat classes are held in a 6-week series. This means that you commit to coming to a specific class on the same day and time, 1x per week, every week for 6 weeks. These classes require pre-registration and must meet a minimum number of participants in order to be held. Pre-registration is required. If the class reaches its minimum number of participants to be held, you may drop in with permission. Mat classes at Excel Pilates DC are graduated from beginning level classes through advanced. Each Mat class level has a curriculum and is designed with specific goals.
Mat classes are the most affordable program we offer. In a group setting, you will learn exercises that you can practice at home. Pilates Mat, the foundation of The Pilates Method Of Body Conditioning, is a series of exercises integrating control, flexibility, strength, precision, breath, flow of movement and body awareness. No equipment is necessary.
Mat classes are limited to 9 people per class session. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note Level 2-4 Mat classes do require studio permission for registration. If you are new to the studio and experienced in Pilates please contact the studio for guidance on level registration.
Reformer classes are offered at various times and days. All Reformer classes are held in a 6-week series. If you are new to Pilates or new to our studio, please start with the Level 1 Reformer classes. If you would like to start mid-session, we require you to complete our Intro Package of private sessions before joining an apparatus class. This is to introduce you to the equipment and teach you proper technique on the apparatus. Just like Mat classes, Reformer classes at Excel Pilates DC are graduated from beginning level classes through advanced. Each class level has a curriculum and is designed with specific goals.
Most Reformer classes consist of 3 or 4 people. Usually, the Reformer is used, but sometimes a teacher will have class participants try other pieces of apparatus. All class participants go through the exercises together as the instructor leads them. Each student will learn to facilitate equipment setup of the Reformer as exercises and transitions are learned.
